Recovery Techniques for Athletes
نویسنده
چکیده
1 KEY POINTS • Recovery is becoming increasingly important to the high-performing athlete in a bid to reduce fatigue and enhance performance. • Some of the more common recovery techniques utilised by athletes include hydrotherapy, active recovery, stretching, compression garments and massage. • In the previous 5-10 years, there has been a significant increase in research examining both the effects of recovery on performance and potential mechanisms. • Recent research suggests that hydrotherapy, compression and massage can enhance acute performance when utilised appropriately. • As recovery is a relatively new area of scientific research, athletes are encouraged to experiment with various recovery techniques to identify useful individualized recovery strategies.

The Optimization of Trunk Position for the 2016 Rio Paralypmic Wheelchair Racing Finals
This research investigated the relationship between athlete aerodynamics (based on peak frontal area during recovery phase) and finishing position for athletes in the 100m5000m wheelchair Athletics events. A retrospective analysis was performed on T54 classified male and female finalists (n=86) at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. Medalling female athletes more consistently favoured an aerodynamic...
متن کاملAssessment of psychological pain management techniques: a comparative study between athletes and non-athletes
Athletes usually deal with injuries and pain. They seem to have similar pain threshold when compared to non-athletes, although they have higher pain tolerance and the exact cause for that is unknown. High levels for pain tolerance and control can improve performance and time for injury recovery. The literature shows that use of coping strategies can increase pain control; possible differences o...
متن کاملPreventing overtraining in athletes in high-intensity sports and stress/recovery monitoring.
In sports, the importance of optimizing the recovery-stress state is critical. Effective recovery from intense training loads often faced by elite athletes can often determine sporting success or failure. In recent decades, athletes, coaches, and sport scientists have been keen to find creative, new methods for improving the quality and quantity of training for athletes. These efforts have cons...
متن کاملFunctional brain abnormalities are related to clinical recovery and time to return-to-play in athletes.
OBJECTIVE The relationship between athlete reports of symptoms, neurophysiological activation, and neuropsychological functioning is investigated in a sample of high school athletes. METHODS All athletes were evaluated using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), a computer-based battery of neurocognitive tests, and a subjective symptom scale. Athletes were evaluated within approximate...
متن کاملCutoff scores in neurocognitive testing and symptom clusters that predict protracted recovery from concussions in high school athletes.
BACKGROUND Many studies address diagnosing concussions, but few look at predicting prognosis. A previous discriminant function analysis showed that symptom clusters derived from the Post-Concussion Symptom Scale and Immediate Postconcussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing composite scores used together improved predictions of protracted recovery after a sports-related concussion. OBJECTIVE T...
